Gmail shared mailbox alternatives
Gmail can approximate a shared inbox, but the usual patterns each have a sharp edge. If support@ is core to your business, a dedicated shared queue is usually cleaner than stretching consumer Gmail workflows.
Option 1: Delegation
A user grants another Gmail account access to their mailbox. It works for a personal assistant model. It is awkward for a rotating support rotation, and the “real” owner of the mailbox remains a single Google account.
Option 2: Google Groups as a collaborative inbox
Groups can distribute mail to members. Configuration is easy to get wrong, threading and ownership are weaker than a purpose-built queue, and you still live inside Workspace billing if the domain is on Workspace.
Option 3: One password, many people
Fast on day one, painful on day thirty. No clean claim model, painful offboarding, and a security review you will regret.
A dedicated shared queue
Unbox Shared Queues give each teammate their own login, access to support@, and claim-style handoffs. Pair that with domain hosting when the address should live on your brand domain — not only inside a personal Gmail.
Common questions
- Can I keep personal mail in Gmail?
- Yes. Many teams keep personal Gmail and move only company domains and role addresses to Unbox.
